Hike in Allen Park
One of the less known parks to hike in Austin, which Highland Hills residents love. The hike is about 1 mile and don’t be surprised if you don’t see anyone the entire time you’re hiking. They even have picnic tables and BBQ pits, so you can also bring a lunch and make an afternoon of it.
Places to Eat in Highland Hills
China Sea
A family owned restaurant, China Sea is a Highland Hills favorite for their good food and fair prices. They also have popular lunch specials.
Mangia Chicago Stuffed Pizza
If you’re from the midwest – or just love Chicago stuffed pizza – this is the place to go. This locally owned spot has been around forever and has grown to be one of the local favorite pizza joints. On Valentine’s Day, they make heart shaped stuffed pizzas.
ZuZu Handmade Mexican Food
A popular spot for breakfast tacos, burritos and tortilla soup. An Honorable Mention the Austin Chronicle’s Best of Austin award, an award given by a citizens vote.

Home to the UT Gymnastics team, Crenshaw Athletic Club is one of the gyms closest to Highland Hills homes. Their gymnastics program is popular for the kids and they have several classes for kids up to 14. There is also an adult fitness center with a weight room, indoor track, whirpool, sauna, cardio machines and a pool. More than just a gym, you’ll probably find your family spending quite a bit of time here.
Gold’s Gym
Just a big north of Highland Hills, you’ll find one of Austin’s many Gold’s Gym locations. This one is no different than the others – cardio and weight equipment, group fitness classes and personal training. Membership prices are pretty reasonable considering everything that’s included.
