Austin Condo Guides by Area
Downtown AustinIf you’re looking for an urban setting, walkable to restaurants, coffee, bars and festivals, spectacular views and full-service living, Downtown Austin is the place to start your search. With such easy access to everything Austin has to offer, and a reverse commute, Downtown Austin is the most desirable area of town for condo living. Over the past decade, the demand for Downtown condos has skyrocketed, which has opened the doors for new, architecturally interesting buildings finished out as uniquely as their exteriors. South AustinSouth Austin is ideal for someone looking for a less urban location, but still want to be close to the Downtown action. Some of Austin’s best chef’s have opened restaurants on S Lamar, S 1st and S Congress, turning South Austin into a second “Downtown” location. Most condos are mid-rise, maintaining the intimate community feel. You’ll also find duplex-style condos or garden homes, for an alternative to apartment style condo living. If you’re looking for a condo near Downtown and prefer to have more space and maybe even a yard, South Austin is the place to start your search. Read more in our South Austin Condo Guide. |
East AustinIf you’re looking for a loft near Downtown, East Austin is the most likely place you’ll find it. Though not the only type of condo in East Austin, lofts seem to be the go-to condo style because they fit the personality of the area. Like South Austin, East Austin has seen a huge influx of great restaurants, which has added to the desirability of the area. If lofts aren’t you’re thing, don’t gloss over East Austin. You can also find duplex-style, garden home style and traditional condos as well. People choose East Austin for two reasons: it is generally the most affordable area of town near Downtown Austin or they like the eclectic, gentrifying vibe. West AustinThe majority of condos in West Austin don’t resemble condos at all. In fact, unless someone told you they were condos, you’d think they were single family homes on small lots. Garden and townhouse style condos are the popular style, largely because West Austin feels very upscale suburban. With rolling hills, access to the greenbelt and trail system, West Austin is ideal for someone looking for a more picturesque, natural setting. And, located in (arguably) the best school district in Austin, the Eanes ISD, West Austin attracts parents looking to take advantage of the public school system.
