Buda is one of the one of the Austin area’s best kept secrets. Because Austin grew North first, Buda is one of those suburbs that often gets overlooked by home buyers, which has allowed the city to grow up in its own time. And grow up it has. The city grew up an estimated 103% from 2000-2010 and growth in this decade is projected to outpace the previous decade. But, Buda is growing smart. Their planning department is committed to a more residential community than it’s neighbor, Kyle, which is attracting those who want the small town feel and don’t want to be more than a few minutes from Austin. Here is our list of the best Buda neighborhoods.

Best Buda Neighborhoods Map
Below we’ve mapped out these neighborhoods so you can get a sense for where they are in relation to Austin, I-35, Kyle and surrounding areas. The map is interactive, so use it to explore the best Buda neighborhoods.
Elliott Ranch
Elliott Ranch is one of Buda’s upscale, gated communities with 547 acres and only 213 homes. Homes not only sit on 1-3 acre lots but many back to greenbelt, giving homeowners added privacy. When you drive through Elliott Ranch, you can see pride of ownership in every home. Lots are well maintained, neighbors are friendly and homes are big enough for families to live comfortably. Trees are another big draw to Elliott Ranch. The developer did a great job at keeping as many of the mature trees as they could, so your eye focuses on the landscaping, rather than house after house like you do in neighborhoods like Sawyer Ranch and Rim Rock. Elliott Ranch is the place for you if you are looking for a home built in the last 10-15 years, but don’t want to sacrifice space and privacy.

Ruby Ranch
Ruby Ranch was Buda’s first luxury neighborhood and is still a great choice for Buda home buyers. Ruby Ranch is partially gated and homes sit on 1-5 acre lots. Much of Ruby Ranch gives you a genuine Texas Hill Country feel, with wide open spaces and indigenous vegetation. Often people compare Ruby Ranch with many of the Dripping Springs and Driftwood neighborhoods and choose Ruby Ranch because of it’s proximity to Austin and Buda’s small town feel.

Whispering Hollow
Whispering Hollow is the neighborhood for you if you are looking for newer construction and neighborhood amenities. Ruby Ranch and Elliott Ranch are great, but they have no neighborhood amenities to speak of. Whispering Hollow has a resort style swimming pool, playground and picnic facilities, which is a hit for families with children. Whispering Hollow wins out over similar South Austin neighborhoods because of lot size. Most of the homes in Whispering Hollow have large enough lots to give residents space, but not large enough to where they’ll need a riding lawn mower. And, located at 1626 and 967, it is easy to get to 35, Austin or Kyle.

Cullen Country
Cullen Country is one of Buda’s more picturesque neighborhoods. The entire neighborhood covers only a few streets, so you’ll have to be diligent about your home search when Cullen Country is your target Buda neighborhood. Residents choose Cullen Country because of it’s mature landscaping, newer homes with luxury amenities you’d expect to find in much more expensive homes and friendly atmosphere. And, only 5 minutes to Downtown Buda, you won’t feel isolated from shopping, restaurants and coffee shops.

Garlic Creek
Garlic Creek is one of Buda’s larger neighborhoods and will have 850 homes when complete. Garlic Creek, like Whispering Hollow, has fabulous community amenities that residents with kids are drawn to. You’ll always meet new neighbors at the 75 foot community pool, playground, splash pad, basketball court or community meeting room. Like Cullen Country, Garlic Creek is only a few minutes from Downtown Buda, so if you’re looking for a convenient location, but don’t want to sacrifice neighborhood amenities, Garlic Creek is your place.
