A growing family is one of the top reasons people buy a home in Austin. When shopping for a home while pregnant, there are lots of tips and tricks that can make the process much less stressful. That’s why we’ve created our Buying a Home While Pregnant Series. We’ll be covering a long list of common concerns and questions, but if you have a specific issue we encourage you to email us so we can help!
Now here is the big question you’ve all been waiting for: how do I buy a home with the least hassle?
We all know how exhausting having a new baby is, so you definitely don’t want to add to that stress with your move. The good news is that there are a few easy ways you can make your home buying process much less stressful.
Hire Movers
You’ll be stressed enough being pregnant and moving so we always recommend putting movers into your budget, even if that means having to set your purchase price a little lower. We also like to get creative at closing: perhaps you can get the seller to give you a credit towards closing costs and use that money to hire movers. This way you can spend more time directing and less time picking up boxes at the risk of injuring yourself.
Plan Showings Around Toddler Naps
If you have kids already, touring homes can be a challenge. Hire a Realtor who can work around your schedule, including naps. Going out first thing in the morning or after the nap concludes, and scheduling the home tours in bursts so you aren’t out for longer than a few hours on any given day. Just keep in mind that the most desirable homes sell quickly, so you will want to get out and tour homes as frequently as your schedules allows to make sure you don’t miss something.
Take Advantage of Online Communication
Again this tends to be most helpful when you already have other children, but take advantage of online communication. Work with a Realtor who is responsive and comfortable over email. You can use NOKK to look at homes, and be able to talk to the seller. This will allow you to work the process whenever you have time vs. having to make time for long phone conversations. Same goes for previewing homes. Hire an agent who is willing to make the first pass of the house on their own. If it meets your criteria, then you can make time for a showing vs. arriving at a house that you know immediately won’t work.
