Highland is located only 6 miles north of the University of Texas and 7 miles north of Downtown Austin. The Highland Neighborhood offers easy access to highways as it is blanketed by Hwy 183 to the North and Hwy 35 to the East. The remainder of the Highland’s borders are quite irregular. Denson Drive and Airport Boulevard make up the southern border. The western border is mainly made up of North Lamar Boulevard while a small pie shaped section extending into the Crestview Neighborhood. Things to Do Near Highland
Highland’s convenient location near Hwy 183 and Hwy 35 allows easy access to most places in Austin. With a short drive you can be on the “Drag” by the University of Texas or enjoying the entertainment districts of Downtown Austin. If you’re looking for a place to shop, The Domain is a 10 minute drive off 183. The Domain offers your normal fare of shops such as Dillards, Macy’s and Dicks, plus your upscale designer shopping as well.

Places to Eat Near Highland
There are plenty of top-notch restaurants in Austin and living in the Highland Neighborhood will give you an easy commute to most of them. However, if you want to stay a little closer to home, you can’t go wrong with the Blackstar Co-op Pub and Brewery. The food is locally sourced and the menu consists of Texas pub fare that complements their beer. The menu ranges from shrimp in grits, to homemade chili to the Black Star Burger. One of the most interesting menu items is their beer float made with one of their house brews poured over Amy’s Ice cream.

One of the most popular neighborhood Coffee shops is Kick Butt Coffee. Kick Butt is your one stop shop for not just grabbing a quick coffee, but for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Kick Butt has breakfast cereals and pastries, sandwiches (called Samiches) and speciality pizza.
