Driftwood is a quiet, unincorporated community in Hays County just 25 miles southwest of Downtown Austin and 7 miles south of Dripping Springs. First developed in the mid 1800s, Driftwood has never been a huge city, but does have its own post office and zip code. Over the years the area has grown and shrank in population and grew to 1,585 at the time of the 2000 census. However, in the last 8 years, the area has grown considerably with new neighborhoods and developments. Driftwood is located in unincorporated Hays County of FM 967. Just 25 miles from Downtown Austin, 7 miles from Dripping Springs, 15 miles from Buda and 15 miles from Kyle, Driftwood is a convenient location for someone looking for a Texas Hill Country retreat not too far from the city. Driftwood Homes
The majority of the homes in Driftwood were built after 2000. You’ll find a few here and there that were built in the 1960s and 1970s, but with the larger neighborhoods that came to Driftwood after 2000, you’ll find more newer homes in Driftwood. Homes range in size from 500 – 17,000 sq ft with 1-10 bedrooms, 1-14 bathrooms and 2-8 car garages. Most of the homes in Driftwood sit on 1-5 acre lots, with some lots as large as 25 acres.

Golf Near Driftwood
The closest golf to Driftwood is at the Grey Rock Golf Course in Circle C. Off Highway 45, the course is about 15 minutes away, so its convenient enough to go everyday if you desire. Grey Rock is a public course and they have pay as you play or membership options for more frequent players.
Is Driftwood too Secluded for You?
Driftwood is a city you choose to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Residents enjoy seeing the night sky and open space. If you’re looking for a busy urban area, try Circle C or Meridian which are much more active neighborhoods with shopping, community centers and smaller lots. Driftwood is an escape for those who don’t want to see into their neighbors backyard, hear sirens or live music at all times of the day or night.

Places to Eat Near Driftwood
Driftwood is home to the world famous Salt Lick Barbecue restaurant and you’ll find many residents hanging out there on a Friday or Saturday night. And, you’ll also find lots of tourists looking to sample some genuine Texas BBQ. With a pavilion, Salt Lick is not just a place to grab a quick bite to eat. You can plan weddings, parties or corporate events there as well. Have out of town guests? Its a great place to bring them.
Shopping Near Driftwood
Grocery shopping can be done in either Dripping Springs at the H-E-B on 290 or in Circle C at the H-E-B in Escarpment Village. For your bigger box retailers, try Sunset Valley, which can be accessed from MoPac. For a short cut, take FM 1826 to 45 to MoPac to avoid the light at the Y in Oak Hill. Like outlet malls?
