Creek of Driftwood is a hidden gem just outside of Southwest Austin in Driftwood Texas. First developed in 2009 by DevelopSense,Inc, Creek of Driftwood has seen a few builders. After DevelopSense,Inc came Idea Homes, local custom builder and now the neighborhood is being developed by Clark Wilson Homes. Though it was a little slow to develop at first, the popularity of this area southwest of Austin in the highly rated Dripping Springs ISD is poised to take off. Creek of Driftwood is a gated community with lots ranging from about 1/2 – 1 acre, making it ideal for someone who wants some extra space between their neighbor. And, with taxes at just under 2% (compared to nearly 3% in other nearby neighborhoods), buyers are realizing how much more home they can afford and are choosing The Creek of Driftwood over other larger communities like Belterra, Highpointe and Rim Rock. Where is The Creek of Driftwood?
The Creek of Driftwood is located off Darden Hill Road (aka Co Rd 162) in Driftwood TX, a small suburb of Austin and Dripping Springs. The easiest access to The Creek of Driftwood would be from FM 1826. If coming from the south, make a left on Darden Hill Road and if coming from the north, make a right on Darden Hill Road. The gated entrance to the Creek of Driftwood is at Onion Creek Lane and you’ll see the flags and neighborhood marker.

The closest golf course to The Creek of Driftwood is at the Grey Rock Golf Course on Highway 45, which is 8.5 miles from the entrance to the neighborhood. Grey Rock is a public course with pay as you play and membership options. You can also try Falconhead Golf Course in Bee Cave which is 18 miles away. Falconhead is also a public course with both membership and pay as you play options. With two golf courses within 30 minutes, you won’t have to worry about getting bored.
Things to Do Near The Creek of Driftwood
If its a Friday night in the Fall, you’ll find most of the community at the Dripping Springs High School football game. If you’ve ever seen the show Friday Night Lights, that’s what you can expect to find there. Many think Driftwood is so far outside Austin, when its really not. Being only 20 miles away from Downtown Austin and even closer to South Austin, you don’t have to worry about missing your favorite festivals or restaurants. And, when you’re done with the people and the lines, retreat back to your “country” home less than 30 minute away.

Probably the most famous restaurant near The Creek of Driftwood is Salt Lick BBQ. More than a restaurant, Salt Lick has a winery, pavilion for special events and weddings and is a great place to take out of town guests looking for the true Texas BBQ experience. Plus, there are several new restaurants going in the Dripping Springs area. Trudy’s is currently being built and the plan is to have multiple decks and live music.
Shopping Near Creek of Driftwood
The closest grocery shopping to The Creek of Driftwood is the H-E-B in Dripping Springs off 290 which is 6.8 miles from the entrance to the neighborhood. If you’re on your way home from work in Austin, there is also an H-E-B at the Y in Oak Hill and an H-E-B at Escarpment and Slaughter Lane in Circle C’s Escarpment Village. For Costco head to MoPac and William Cannon and for Walmart head to 290 in Sunset Valley.
Where to Work Out – Gyms Near Creek of Driftwood
If you like tennis, try the Polo Tennis and Fitness Club just over 290 directly north of the community. If you’re looking for a more traditional gym, try Dripping Springs where you’ll find the Dripping Springs Fitness Center and a Curves gym. Alternatively, walk out your front door and walk or run through the beautiful Texas Hill Country for a great work out.
