Govalle is a large East Austin neighborhood made up of a collection of smaller, undesignated communities. One of the last neighborhoods that maintains its original charm, you’ll find many untouched 1940s homes. But, as development pushes east of Downtown, you’re also starting to see plenty of restored homes, larger new construction and modern condo projects. Since this area is still considered affordable compared to other East Austin neighborhoods, you’ll find a lot of art galleries, breweries, nonprofits and holistic centers setting up shop. Govalle residents also enjoy convenient access to Airport Boulevard, Hwy 183 and IH 35. And, as Austin traffic gets worse, easy access to highways will mean less time in the car. GGovalle is located in the Southeast corner of East Austin just north of the Colorado River. Conveniently located 3 miles east of Downtown Austin, Govalle is only a short drive to just about anywhere you want to be in Austin. And, with easy access to IH35, Hwy 183 and Airport Boulevard. Govalle is bordered by Oak Springs Road to the North, Airport Boulevard to the East, the Colorado River to the South and Webberville/N. Pleasant Valley Road to the West. Things to Do Near Govalle
Govalle is a unique area that is home to several of the best restaurants in all of Austin. Justine’s French Cuisine and Sawyer and Co. are the two most popular restaurants in the area. If you’re looking for Mexican, try Marcelino Pan y Vino. They have fantastic breakfast tacos and daily lunch specials. If you are looking for a place to have a drink after work, Lustre Pearl East is the go to spot for a lot of the Govalle residents. Another place to check out is Zhi Tea, which is a tea parlor with a relaxing, outside patio. Since Govalle is bordered by the Colorado River, you are only a short walk or bike to the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail.
