Austin food trucks are the perfect solution for an “I’m stuck in Lamar rush hour traffic, have nothing in the fridge to cook, don’t feel like going to HEB but am starving” kinda day. That’s just how Hat Creek Burger made it into our best Austin food trucks queue. It just happened to be parked in the Gourdough’s trailer park on S Lamar while I was stuck in traffic trying to get home. So, I went home, pick up the gang and we turned around and went right back over there.
Hat Creek Burger – Roving Truck
Hat Creek Burger is what food truck lovers call a roving truck. This means, they are genuinely mobile and travel from location to location serving up tasty food. When one of these roving trucks stops in our area, it goes to the top of our list.
You don’t have to drive around aimlessly, or be stuck in Lamar traffic to find one. Usually, these trucks post their locations on Twitter or Facebook so you know where to expect them. You can find Hat Creek Burger on Twitter @HatCreekBurger.
The Burgers at Hat Creek
The burgers at the Hat Creek truck were solid. Made fresh to order (never frozen) with Angus beef, fresh lettuce and tomato, ketchup and mayo. They also have two sizes, for the light eaters and big eaters in your group. And, staff is friendly and welcoming.
Prices range from $4-$6 for a cheeseburger and $2 for chips. One great thing about certain food trailer parks around South Austin is you can bring your own beer and wine. So, if a beer sounds as tasty with a burger to you as it does Chris, you can bring a few. Or, save room for one of their tasty hand mixed shakes.
I was a bit bummed to not see french fries on their menu that night as I’ve heard great things about them and wanted to try them. So, instead of the chips, we decided to save room for dessert and head over to Holy Cacao! Watch for that review in our next post.
Hat Creek Burgers at UT Football Games
You can find Hat Creek Burgers inside the UT football stadium in the North End Zone, 6th floor between sections 14 and 15. It will definitely be where I go for food at my next UT game.

I hear some of Austin’s best food comes off these roaming trucks.
