Texas Cuban South Austin Food Truck
We drove past the shiny black trailer located on the corner of South Lamer and Collier street almost everyday. Every time we drove past, there was always a steady line and people sitting on the picnic tables they have out front. Well for this week’s Food Truck Fridays segment we decided it was time to see what all the fuss was about.
The Texas Cuban Sandwich
The Texas Cuban was a humongous sandwich with grilled pork tenderloin, ham, swiss cheese, provolone cheese stacked high on Cuban garlic bread and pressed to perfection. The Texas Cuban variation has to be one of the best Cuban sandwiches I have ever tasted and definitely the best I have had in Austin. The garlic bread was buttery and tasty, the meat was sliced thick and moist and the cheese was melted perfectly. As you can guess, the Texas Cuban serves two. If you’re dining alone, you can order El Cubano. It has the same ingredients, but still plenty big.
South Austin Veggie Soul Cuban
The other sandwich we ordered is the South Austin Veggie Soul. If you’re into veggie sandwiches, this is one of the best I have tried. The same buttery garlic Cuban bread really brings a different flavor. The sandwich is pressed with fresh and organic zucchini, yellow squash, mushrooms, onions, red bell peppers and provolone cheese.
Don’t Skip the Plantain Chips
Just as tasty as the sandwiches are the salty sweet plantain chips that come with each sandwich. The plantain chips are the perfect compliment to these fantastic sandwiches.
Next to Try: The Cuban Cheeseburger
The next menu you item that catches my eye is the Cuban Cheeseburger. its a quarter pound all natural beef topped with swiss cheese, pork tenderloin and shoestring fries for $8. I will let you know my thoughts of this Cuban take on an American classic.
Texas Cuban Summary
The place to go for a hearty wich that will sure to satisfy your savory/sweet itch.
