One of the most expensive luxury gated communities in Austin, it’s also built on the banks of Lake Austin. As the name suggests, it is an island with waterfront homes on all sides. Located on a deep section of Lake Travis, Lakecliff on Lake Travis is not only waterfront, but also a country club community. Built around the popular Lakecliff Country Club, residents have easy access to golf, tennis and of course, the lake. One of the only true master planned community that is also waterfront, the Reserve at Lake Travis has a lot to offer its residents. 116 of the homes are waterfront, but even those that aren’t have easy access to a community marina with 160 covered boat slips that can accommodate boats up to 80 feet. The Reserve at Lake Travis is also an equestrian community, and is the only neighborhood that incorporates lake and equestrian living in one. The neighborhood was first developed by Red McCombs and was the host of Luxury Home Magazine’s 2015 Tour of Homes. Since then, we have seen more luxury new construction. If you don’t need a luxury estate, Allure Pointe Villas offer maintenance free condominium living and The Cottages provide a smaller home with lake views within walking distance to the community marina. This community is located in Spicewood, so it is a little farther outside of town. However, if you’re looking for amenities, you really can’t beat the Reserve at Lake Travis.

Located next to Costa Bella, Vineyard Bay is another luxury gated Lake Travis waterfront community and one of the few with a security patrol. Not all homes have Lake Travis waterfront footage, but the ones that do have several hundred feet and private docks. Homes were built from the 1980s to early 2000s, so you’ll find varying architectural styles and floor plans. All of them are the epitome of luxury. Located at the south end of the popular River Place neighborhood, Watersedge at River Place homes have a more modern lean. Homes were built after 2000s, so you’ll find more of the Texas Hill Country modern architectural style with open floor plans, large windows, stucco exteriors and metal roofs. Homes are on the larger side, so even though lots are just over an acre, you do have neighbors on either side that are fairly close. Located in Lakeway’s popular master planned community Rough Hollow, Waters Edge at Rough Hollow is where you’ll find Lake Travis waterfront properties. Though not all homes in the neighborhood are waterfront, those that do have 95′-125′ of Lake Travis shoreline. Rough Hollow does have its own community marina and yacht club, so even if you don’t have access from your property, you can easily be on your boat in just a few minutes. Homes are newer with some of them being built in the 2020s, so you’re likely not going to have to do any remodels before you move in. You’ll also get access to Rough Hollow’s community amenities and activities, so if you’re looking for more of a master planned community but don’t want to go to Steiner Ranch or the Reserve at Lake Travis, Rough Hollow is another good one to consider.
