Steiner Ranch Amenities
Steiner Ranch has three community centers for its residents to use. Each of the three community centers has a swimming pool, sport courts and fields. You’ll also find playgrounds, club house with activities director, tennis courts, covered pavilion perfect for parties, children’s play areas, 20 miles of hike and bike trails, golf course and access to waterfront area of the Lake Club on Lake Austin.
Steiner Ranch employs a full time activities director to plan activities throughout the year and they aim to make everyday life a family vacation for residents. Whether you enjoy lake activities, lounging by the pool, tennis, golf or other activities, you’re sure to find something you like to do in Steiner Ranch. Its also a great way to meet your neighbors, especially if you’re new to Austin.
River Place Amenities
River Place has two parks in the neighborhood: Sun Tree Park and Woodlands Park. Sun Tree Park has grills, shaded children’s play areas, soccer field, gazebo and open space. Woodlands Park has grills, shaded children’s play areas, practice soccer fields and many large trees.
Check out the Nature Trail for hiking and many scenic overlooks you can spend a few minutes admiring the view from your neighborhood. There’s also a private country club, River Place Country Club with golf, tennis, fitness, swimming, dining and social activities.

With more amenities included, you’ll pay higher taxes in Steiner Ranch. At River Place, you’ll pay extra for membership to the country club, which has some of the amenities Steiner Ranch residents get access to for free. Depending on the amount of taxes you pay, whether you choose to be a club member and what type of membership River Place residents choose, the yearly may or may not equal out in the end.

Both Northweset Austin neighborhoods are served by the Leander ISD, one of the top 3 school districts in Austin. Since both neighborhoods attend the same middle school, Canyon Ridge, and the same high schools, Vandergrift or Cedar Park, we’ll compare elementary schools.
Steiner Ranch kids are assigned to one of three elementary schools: Steiner Ranch, Laura Welch Bush or River Ridge. River Place kids are assigned to one of two schools: River Place or Laura Welch Bush. All of these schools are rated Exemplary by TEA.

Steiner Ranch vs River Place: Commuting
If you work anywhere west of 620, commuting from River Place is a much easier commute. Why? Because you’ll avoid the 620/2222 interchange which can get pretty backed up during rush hour. River Place’s entrance and exit is off 2222 while Steiner Ranch can be accessed only from 620.
Another consideration is how far from 620 you’re located in Steiner Ranch. If you’re a few miles down Quinlan Park Rd or Steiner Ranch Blvd, it could take you 10 minutes or more just to reach 620. River Place is a much smaller commuting, so getting out of the neighborhood will be much quicker than Steiner Ranch in most cases.

When deciding between Steiner Ranch and River Place, we chose River Place because it had more of what we would look for in a neighborhood – balance of amenities and low tax rate, proximity to Downtown Austin, better commute and smaller neighborhood.
