Livability recently did a list of the Top 10 Best Cities for Recent College Grads and Austin was named the #3 best US city on that list. Livability looked at number of 25-34 year olds in a city, number of jobs available, hot jobs and top employers. Austin Named #3 in Best Cities for Recent College Grads List
According to Livability, Austin has 171,526 people 25-34 years of age and 20,025 jobs available. The hot jobs are computer technology, research and development and engineering. Livability also believes the popular Austin mantra, Keep Austin Weird, is one of the main attractions to a recent grads looking to develop their own identity. Even though overall #3 on the list, Austin has the highest number of 25-34 year olds as well, which isn’t surprising as many of the UT graduates from other cities end up staying in Austin after graduation. Austin is also a very culturally diverse city. You’ll always find street fairs with local artisans, live music and festivals. Residents plan their day jobs around their social life, a rare balance in cities that have such booming tech job markets. Austin’s economy is also diverse – attracting small and large businesses in many different industries.
