When Austin had its first population explosion, it grew north. Suburbs like Round Rock, Cedar Park and Pflugerville have been well known for years, whereas southern suburbs like Buda and Kyle were basically only known to locals. With the recent growth of the Downtown Austin job market and entertainment mecca, residents who wanted to remain connected to Austin started to look at other areas closer to town. Thus, growth expanded south and at a fairly rapid pace. What once used to be a sleepy little suburb only known for its relatively inexpensive housing, Kyle has recently become a bustling center poised for growth. And, it’s going to continue. Here are some of the highlights for what you can expect in Kyle over the next year or so.
Kyle is Getting an Orangetheory
Orangetheory, one of the new fitness crazes made popular in more urban areas around the country, is opening in Kyle across from the Seton Medical Center on November 10th. This is the first Orangetheory to open in a southern suburb of Austin. If you’re looking for an intense, full body workout done in 60 minutes with some coaching and direction, Orangetheory is a great place to check out.
Two New Marriotts to Open
Two Marriott hotels are set to be built on the 3.69 acre site next to the EVO Entertainment Center. One will be a 93 room, four story Marriott SpringHill Suites and the second will be a 100 room, four story Marriott TownPlace Suites. Another indication Kyle is growing and setting up infrastructure to serve its residents.
Historic Kyle City Hall Gets a New Name
The Historic Kyle City Hall, which hasn’t been used as city hall since 2007, recently got a new name that represents its current use, the Krug Activity Center. Named after former mayor, Peter Krug, who used to live across the street from the building, the Krug Activity Center serves as a community center and home for non-profit meeting space, social events, Kyle Quilters and Meals on Wheels. The Krug Activity Center can also be rented to private individuals through the City of Kyle Parks and Rec Department.

To attract businesses to Kyle and invest in the future growth of the city, Majestic Realty is developing 500,000 square feet of speculative industrial space at the corner of Kohler’s Crossing and Kyle Crossing. The Class A space will be used to house manufacturing, light industrial, assembly, distribution, office, e-commerce, retail/wholesale sales and warehousing companies.
