What once was a tourist town to bring out of towners looking to visit the Barbecue Capital of Texas has now become one of the go to suburbs for buyers looking for affordability near Austin. As of the 2020 census, the population of Lockhart is nearly 15,000, so it is not a sleepy little town any more. To accommodate the influx of residents, we are seeing larger builders develop large parcels into suburban looking neighborhoods. If you’re looking for something a little more unique and established, Lockhart also has several neighborhoods like that as well. Residents are drawn to its close in location, only 30 miles southeast of Downtown Austin. Lockhart residents have easy access via 130, which is typically must easier to navigate than 35 and MoPac north. Thus, residents who want to be close to Austin and South Austin are gravitating towards Lockhart versus the northern suburbs. If you’re looking for affordable living that can feel like small town or suburban, Lockhart is a great place to start your search. Scroll Down to Read Our Lockhart Neighborhood Guide.
