Recently, national real estate blog Redfin released a study on the best day of the week to list your home. They studied listings over a 21 month period in several major markets, including Travis County in Central Texas. What did the study find?
Homes Listed on Friday are 12% More Likely to Sell in 90 Days
Its important to most sellers we talk to that their home sells quickly. It seems homes listed on Friday are 12% more likely to sell in 90 days or less.
Homes Listed on Friday or Thursday Sell for Slightly Closer to List Price
The average homes listed on a Thursday or Friday sold for 94.4% of their original list prices, while homes listed on other days received, on average, 93.9-94.1% of their original list prices.
Homes Listed on Friday are Toured 19% More
Homes listed on Friday were toured by buyers 19% more than homes listed on any other day. They speculated it was because most of the home tours happen on Saturday or Sunday. When you list on Friday with professional photos at an attractive price, your home is top of mind for home buyers and they are more likely to see it in person. The more buyers you can get to tour your home, the higher the likelihood it will sell.
Homes Listed on Sunday Get Marginally More Online Views
Though online views are a big part of attracting buyers to your home, the end goal is more in person tours. 99.9% of buyers aren’t buying something they’ve never seen in person.
For the Best Chance of Selling Faster and for More – List on Friday
The data studied by Redfin suggests Friday as the best day to list a home in Austin. Though the data is not statistically significant and makes some assumptions, it’s not going to hurt you to list on a Friday compared to any other day.

Does Listing on a Friday Really Matter?
Ultimately, I don’t believe the day you list your home will make or break your Austin home sale. But, it will probably get your home more in person tours on the first weekend. If you list your Austin home on Tuesday with a killer marketing program and professional photos at the right price, your home will sell for top dollar. My advice would be pay more attention to the marketing program your Realtor will use and how knowledgeable that Realtor is about the home selling process and contract and less attention to the day they want to list your home.
