Things to Do in Kinney
Get Tires – or Your Tire Fixed – at Tire Man
Yes, it sounds weird as one of the top things to do in Kinney but I was so happy with them, I had to include it. I recently got a nail in my tire and went to 2 reputable places. Both told me I needed a brand new tire but they didn’t have it, so they sent me elsewhere. After two places with no tire in stock and the air quickly running out of it, I went to Yelp and found these guys. I pulled in and they told me I did not need a new tire and they could fix it right there for $20. I told them where I’d been and they said they are in the business of selling tires, not fixing tires and making customers happy. We only tell you you need a new tire when you do was his response. I now know where I’ll be getting all of my tires from now on!
Broken Spoke
Broken Spoke, located in South Austin’s Kinney neighborhood, is truly a blast from the past. An old fashioned Texas Dance Hall, they host dance lessons nightly and the outside of it looks like it was built by hand. If you’re looking for a state of the art club where they blast disco music, this is not your scene. If you’re looking for an authentic Texas bar, then stop by here one night for a few drinks. Places to Eat in Kinney
Giovanni’s Pizza Stand
The most loved pizza stand in Austin. When I heard this, I had to check it out. Not being from Austin, I must admit I was a bit taken aback by the pizza stand in the gas station thing. However, I quickly got over that when I tried their pizza. Its a thinner crust, which I am usually not a fan of, but they’ve got it down. It’s also pretty cheap, making it a great Friday night pizza and a movie treat.
Red’s Porch
Great place to go with a bunch of people. They have a cool patio/porch upstairs with nice greenbelt views, as well as indoor seating downstairs. Not too loud where you can’t hear anyone at your table, but loud enough where you can have a good time. It gets pretty packed, so it’s best to get in early if you can. Otherwise, just use the valet parking and they’ll take care of you. They also show movies on the porch, so check the schedule to see what’s playing.
Coffee in Kinney
Austin Java
One of Austin’s favorite coffee shops is located right in the heart of Kinney in the Victory Medical Center. South Austin residents no longer have to cross the river for Austin Java’s coffee.
Starbucks
If you’re a traditionalist and haven’t yet embraced Austin’s cool and funky coffee shop scene, you’ll want to hit up Starbucks on S Lamar and Ben White.
