Things to Do in Low Theodore Heights
Low Theodore Heights is located in the heart of South Austin, so you’ll never find a shortage of things to do. Some of the local favorites include Zilker Park for events like The Kite Festival, Zilker Tree Lighting and Austin City Limits. Even when there’s no activities scheduled in Zilker Park, its a great place to spend an afternoon with a picnic or throwing the ball around. On a hot day head to Barton Springs Pool a natural spring with places to sit along the sides. The water is freezing cold, even in the summer, but if you can’t take the water, its a great place to get some sun. Downtown Austin is also just a few minutes away. Head in for dinner or just to walk around 6th Street and people watch.
Low Theodore Heights Walkability
Low Theodore Heights, though close to a lot of South Austin’s amenities, its not really a walkable area as the Walkscore below shows. Many of the roads in Low Theodore Heights are busy streets with no sidewalks, so its not a great idea to walk – especially if you have kids or if its dark.

For tacos and especially breakfast tacos, try Maria’s Taco Xpress on South Lamar. For a burger or for a nice place to have drinks with friends, try Black Sheep Lodge on South Lamar. If you want to taste some of Austin’s best food, try one of South Austin’s food trucks.
Coffee Near Low Theodore Heights
The closest coffee shop can be found on South Lamar at Irie Bean. They have great coffee and a nice outdoor patio where you can bring your dog. Austin Java is also on 290 at the south end of the neighborhood and you can find Once Over, another local coffee shop, on 1st. My favorite coffee can be found at Summermoon on S 1st. Its like nothing you’ve ever tasted before!
