Most known as the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin may be adding Surf City USA to its motto in 2016. The new NLand Surf Park, set to open next year, will become the first inland surfing destination in the United States. This 160-acre park will be located in burgeoning Southeast Austin near the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Adding such an innovative project to the Austin recreational landscape coincides with the goal of making Austin a true World Class City.
How will NLand Surf Park Impact our Drought?
One of the big concerns of building such a park is the effect on the environment. Many question how it will impact Austin’s drought. Taking water conservation into account, the developers designed the park to be extremely eco-friendly. By planning to capture as much rainwater as possible and push it through a series of filtration systems, the lagoon will be a net-zero water user. Water conservation is a top priority of the project.

Austin is a Mecca of Outdoor Activities
Unless you live in Galveston, finding a Texas surfer is an anomaly. As Austinites, we can only simulate the illusion of surfing by either wakeboarding or wake-surfing. Water recreation is a major part of our lifestyle here in Austin. Add to that, the many transplants moving to Austin from coastal cities, the NLand Surf Park could be an amazing addition to our fantastic city.
