Last night after attempting to get free tacos from Torchy’s newest location on South Lamar and finding an incredibly long line (note to self – free stuff in Austin always comes with a 2 hour line), we decided to try Papalote on South Lamar. Turns out we weren’t the only ones who were turned off by the line at Torchy’s and decided to find a new taco place as there were several other people there doing just that.
South Austin Tacos at Papalote
We had never been to Papalote before, but have heard from many, its a great place for tacos. We decided to start with guacamole (freshly made) and chips. Not only did it look appetizing, it tasted great too. Needless to say we tanked it pretty quickly. Next, we tried their tacos and I tried a sope. I got both with their Alambres which is their steak, onions, bell pepper mixture and it was incredibly good. The sope was huge too and only $3!

Great Taco and Mexican Restaurant
Its safe to say we will be back often. Not only were the tacos and guacamole great, but it wasn’t very expensive, was easy to park and they will soon have their liquor license! If you are looking for great tacos in 78704, try Papalote!
Where is Papalote?
It would help if we told you where this place is, wouldn’t it? You can find Papalote at 2803 S Lamar Blvd, Austin TX 78704, which is basically at the corner of S Lamar and Manchaca next to Thundercloud Subs and The Soup Peddler. You can call them at (512) 804-2474.
