The positive economic climate created in Austin was not an accident. In 2004, a five year economic development initiative called Austin Opportunity was put into affect and surpassed all expectations. Austin Opportunity was so advantageous, that Phase Two of this plan was put in place in 2009 and will carry Austin through 2013. The goals for Austin Opportunity 2.0 is to create 117,000 jobs and boost Austin’s payroll to $10.8 billion.
